OBITUARY
Vivian W. Butts
Vivian W. Butts, 80, of Bethlehem, died Oct. 6, 2013. Born Oct. 5, 1933 in Fentress, VA, daughter of the late Wendell Curtis and Catherine Lily (Spruill) Williams. Vivian joined the Bethlehem Police Dept. in 1964 as the citys first female officer. Promoted to sergeant in 1980, she retired in 1989 after 25 years of service. Preceded in death by husband, Raymond Earl Butts Sr. Survivors: son, Raymond (Teresa) E. Butts Jr., Accokeek, MD; daughter, Sharon R. King, Fresh Meadows, NY; three granddaughters and one grandson; son Karl (Deborah) Lyons of East Stroudsburg, PA; brothers: Elmer (Antonia) and Wayman (Annie) Williams of Beth., Edward and Donald Williams, of Allentown; two brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law, including Clara (Roland) Williams of Beth. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion provided by staff of St. Lukes Hospice and those who cared for her at home. Visitation: 6 pm 8 pm Friday (remarks 6:30 7:30 pm), and 10 am 11 am Saturday, St. Paul Baptist Church, 925 E. Geopp St., Beth. Funeral: 11 am Saturday at church.
