Roxie Louise (Newkirk) Hooks

Roxie Louise Hooks of Bethlehem, PA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after peacefully passing away at Lehigh Valley Hospital on July 24, 2025 surrounded by her family and friends. Roxie was born on September 24, 1938 to Roscoe Newkirk and Elizabeth Newkirk-Abney in Rocky Mount North Carolina/Edgecomb County. She graduated in 1958 from George Washington Carver High School in Pinetop, North Carolina, and soon thereafter, she and her family relocated to Allentown, PA. Roxie was married to the late Marion Hooks and out of this union was the birth of Marian Louise Hooks who is deceased. Janet Yvette Newkirk-Wright, daughter, passed from this life on June 1, 2025. Roxie joined the Union Baptist Church in 1959 under the Pastorship of Rev. Dr. Horace A. Melton. Here, she served faithfully and with dedication on the Diaconate Ministry, Pastor’s Aid, Missionary Society, Hospitality Ministry, Senior Usher Board, Golden Girls Choir, Soaring Eagles, and the BTH (Pastor Benjamin T. Hailey) Senior Choir. Roxie furthered her education at Penn State Extension Campus in Allentown, PA while being employed for 53 years at the Sacred Heart Hospital as a Food Service Supervisor, and as a Dietary Aide. Roxie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, compassion, and her legacy of service to family members, friends, and the surrounding Lehigh Valley communities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters; Beatrice Cole, Rosa Newkirk, and step sister Mattie Bosket. Roxie will be lovingly remembered by her grandsons; Jarvis Wright, Dominic Wright, Dawud Wright, God daughter, Jalessa Davis, and God sister, Georgia (Peaches) Adam. Roxie leaves to cherish her memory a host of family, friends and countless others.
