Ronnie Lewis Palmer
February 24, 1952 – July 10, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronnie L. Palmer on July 10,
2024 at the age of 72 in Allentown, PA. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather,
and a cherished member of the community.
Ronnie L. Palmer was born on February 24, 1952, in Baltimore, MD to Clara and James
Palmer, Sr. He was a devoted husband to Doretha Palmer, with whom he shared 45
years of marriage. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Shanise, Michael,
and Anthony Palmer. He was also the proud grandfather of Jeremiah and Jayden
Ronnie Palmer.
Ronnie dedicated much of his life to his faith and community. As an active member of
Union Baptist Church for over 45 years, he served in various capacities, including
Sunday School Superintendent, Fulfillment Hour teacher, singer on the Praise team,
Male Chorus, Mass Choir, and Servant Leader of the Diakonate Ministry. He trained
numerous deacons at Union Baptist Church and was often called upon to train deacons
at other churches across the Lehigh Valley.
In addition to his commitment to the church, Ronnie was deeply involved in the local
community. He was honored as NAACP Man of the Year, contributed to the Afro-
American Cultural Center, and was active in the Central Pennsylvania Male Singing
Association (CPMSA). Ronnie was a dedicated coach of baseball and basketball and
leveraged his passion for mentorship by serving as the president of Mountainville
Memorial Little League for over 10 years.
Ronnie was a proud alumnus of Douglass High School in Baltimore, MD, graduating in
1970. He furthered his education at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA, where he
graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Vocational-Industrial Education. After
his internship at General Electric, he went on to have a long career as a sales engineer.
Ronnie will be remembered for his wisdom, sense of humor, love of family, and
dedication to service. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all those who
were fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doretha Palmer; his children, Shanise Palmer, Michael
Palmer, and Anthony Palmer; his grandchildren, Jayden Ronnie Palmer and Jeremiah
Palmer; siblings Clarice Brown, Ernest Palmer (Rita), Sandra Alderman, Charles Palmer
(Mary), Leon Palmer (Michelle), Gregory Vincent, Donya Green, a host of nieces and
nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Clara and James Palmer, Sr., and brother James Palmer, Jr.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff, caregivers,
friends, and community for their support and care during this difficult time.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for a life well lived.
A funeral service to honor Ronnie Palmer's life will be held on July 20, 2024 at 11:00 am
at Union Baptist Church, Allentown, PA. Following the graveside service, a repast will
be held at Union Baptist Church.
