John Paul Schankowitz Jr. age 77 passed away on Thursday June 6, 2024 after a long battle of esophageal cancer. Born January 29, 1947. John was a courageous Marine veteran, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. John Leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
A proud veteran who served his country with honor, John exemplified bravery, resilience, and dedication throughout his life. His service in Vietnam was a testament to his unwavering commitment to protecting his fellow countrymen and upholding the values he held dear.
Beyond his military service, John was a passionate outdoorsman. His love for hunting and fishing was a lifelong passion that he shared with his son, creating countless memories in the great outdoors. The bond they created over their shared love of hunting and fishing was unbreakable and brought them closer together.
Known for his mischievous sense of humor, John had a knack for pranking his family members, bringing joy and laughter to every gathering. His love for family was evident in the joy he found in their company, especially during family gatherings where he could share stories, jokes, and precious moments with those he held dear.
A devoted husband for 50 years, John shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Patricia, whom he adored beyond words. Their love was a shining example of dedication, partnership, and unwavering commitment, and their bond only grew stronger with each passing year.
John also had a special place in his heart for his loyal companion, his dog Charlie, who brought him comfort, companionship, and unconditional love throughout the years.
John is survived by his wife Patricia Hodson Schankowitz, his children Heather L. DeAngelo (George DeAngelo), Tara L. Kettenburg ( late Todd Kettenburg), Tammy L. Schankowitz, John P. Schankowitz III ( Kristine Gregory-Schankowitz). Grandchildren Haileigh, Stephen, Cierra, Raphael, Julie, Naiya, William, Jayce, Zachary, and Madelyn. Great Grandchildren Elianna, Kayde and Adeline. Predeceased by Grandchildren Dakota, and Anthony, and son in law Todd P. Kettenburg.
John's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to shine bright in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His love for his family, his dedication to his country, and his passion for the outdoors will forever be cherished and remembered.
