Henry Edward Barr, age 74, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, April 04, 2023 peacefully at home in Bethlehem. Born on July 08, 1949 in Nesmith, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Cornelia (Gamble) and Nelson Barr. Henry ran track and played football at Phoenixville High School before graduating. Henry went to West Chester Teacher’s College in 1969 before it is known today as West Chester University, He received his degree in Elementary Education. He ran track there running the 100 yard dash & other races, he was a part of the Gospel Choir and was member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Henry married Janice Cirwithian and from that union came one son Rashad Cirwithian Barr and a beautiful granddaughter Savannah Rose. Henry worked different jobs over his career such as substitute teaching, a security guard at Walgreens for 10 years and worked his own lawn care business. Henry was with Peggy Morton for 25+ years and was a father figure to her two sons Terrell and Rich and her six grandchildren He enjoyed going to the Penn Relays with his friend Sam and driving the church van for Sam. He loved to watch the TV shows “Rifle Man” and “Family Feud”. He liked to watch the Eagles with his beverage of choice. Henry had a contagious laugh. He loved to cook and when he hosted Thanksgiving he made this cranberry sauce with chestnuts. Henry lived a full life and we will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his siblings: Redonia Coppedge, Louis Barr, Ellen Bellamy, Harry Barr and Synovia (Barr) Brown. He leaves to cherish his memories his son Rashad Barr of Havertown, granddaughter Savannah Rose and Janice Barr; brother Nelson Barr and wife Eloise, of Lancater, PA, sister Judy Keys, of Phoenixville, PA and Peggy Morton her sons Terrell & Rich & her grandchildren, of Bethlehem, PA; Sister-in-laws, Judie (Wooten) Barr of Norristown and Shirley Barr of Pottstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
