Harriett Hargrove Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Harriett C. Hargrove, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on February 24, 2024. Harriett was born into the family of Chester and Harrie Lee Coleman on April 5, 1950, in Austin, Texas. At the age of three, she moved to Camden, NJ. She was educated by the Camden City School District, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1968. Harriett was known to be an outstanding student in addition to being on the varsity cheerleading squad for three years.

From there, she attended Camden County Community College, culminating her higher education at Rowan University with a degree in Home Economics in 1972. She started her career as a Home Economics educator at Hatch Middle School of Camden, NJ. From the time she was in middle school, up until marriage, she was the pianist for the Sunday School choir at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. In 1972, Harriett began to question the meaning and purpose of her life leading to her faith in Christ. Her life was substantially changed by the ministry of the Campus Crusaders making her a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.

In the summer of 1973, Harriett met Bob Hargrove, a bible college student. They were married in the summer of 1975. They began their union in Hatfield, PA while Bob completed his seminary training. This marriage created seven sons and one daughter. In 1979, the family moved to Allentown, PA and started Faith Baptist Church. Harriett served as the pianist and Sunday school teacher for many years.

Harriett is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Robert Hargrove. She is also survived by her eight children: Robert, Steven, David, Daniel, Andrew, Michael (Leslie), Christopher and Gloria (Vincent). Harriett was a beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren: Mackensey, Blake, Ava, Mariah, Andrew, Cameron, Michael, Iyla, and Siena.

She is also survived by her mother, Harrie Lee Coleman, sister, Mary Byrd (Arnold), brother, Robert Coleman, Aunt Arzulia O’Neal, Aunt Myrtis Ates, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Harriett was preceded in death by her father, Chester Coleman, sister, Louise and daughter-in-law, Katlyn.

We were blessed to have Harriett with us here for many years and gratefully release her into the hands of our loving, heavenly Father.
