On Friday, April 10, 2020, Ella Francis Hamlin went to be with the Lord. She was born on April 27, 1934 in Braddock, Pennsylvania. She was the sixth of nine children born to the late George and Francis Hamlin.She accepted the Lord at age nine and was baptized by the late George W. Harvey at New Hope Baptist Church, Braddock, Pennsylvania. Here she attended Sunday school, BYPU and was part of the Junior Missionary, later a Young Adult Missionary, and the Young Adult Usher Board.After graduating from High School she worked as a General Office Clerk for Bell of Pennsylvania in the Engineering Department and also at Prices Dress shop in Braddock.She was united in Holy Matrimony to Hiram J. Green on December 27, 1958. Three children were born of this union; Carol Elaine Green, Laura Elizabeth Green and Jeffrey Green.The family moved from the Pittsburgh area due to her husband’s job relocation. Additional job transfers moved them to NY, Philadelphia, PA Bethlehem, PA and finally settling in Allentown, PA.
Once settled in Allentown, she joined Union Baptist Church, founded by the Late Horace A Melton. Here she enjoyed the fellowship and growing in the Lord, serving over the years on various auxiliaries. She later became a Deaconess and was set aside as one of seven women to become Mothers of Union Baptist Church.
She retired from First Fidelity Bank in May 1996
She was a life-time member of the Allentown Branch NAACP of which she was a Board Member and secretary for over 20 years.
She was predeceased by parents George and Francis Hamlin, brothers George, Jr., Robert, sisters Doris Priscilla Hite, Jacquelyn Burnham, Josephine Spencer, and a first cousin Meredith Evans that was raised with them.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Carol Green and husband Allen Lewis of Conyers, GA, Laura Green and husband Enrique Romero of Carrollton, TX and son Jeffrey Green of Berlin, NJ. Sisters Rose McGriff, Minnie Glaze of Pittsburgh and Cecelia Hamlin of Toronto Canada, sister-in-law Helen Smalley of San Antonio, TX .
There are four grandchildren; Rachael and Cameron Lewis, Allen and Nicolle Green, many nieces and nephews, spanning 6 generations, and other family members and friends.
