Mattie Lee (Abney) Bosket

Mattie Lee (Abney) Bosket, 84, departed this world on Sunday, June 4th at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Fountain Hill, PA where she was loved by all who cared for her. She born on June 30, 1932 in Saluda, SC and after high school she married her teenage sweetheart, Clyde Edward Bosket, Sr.  They were married for sixty-five (65) years.

Mattie was a member of Union Baptist Church for over sixty (60) years having joined Union Baptist when it was located at 377 Union Street in Allentown.  Mattie was a devoted servant. She served as Co-Chairperson of the joint Deacon-Deaconess Board and served on the Senior Usher Board, the Senior Choir, the Missionary Board and the Pastor’s Aide.  She chaired or co-chaired numerous fundraising projects as Union Baptist moved from 377 to 621 Linden Street and finally to 302 N. 6th Street.  She proudly served as the Co-Chair of the Pulpit Committee in 2002-2003.

Mattie was employed by AT&T as a production lab inspector for sixteen (16) years.  She was active in the company’s bowling league as one of her past times. After she retired, Mattie became “Mom Bosket” to many younger people in the community that she mentored and spent personal time and resources to help them advance in life. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars for Prince Hall affiliation.        

Mattie is survived by her spouse, Clyde, Sr., sons Daniel (Jevata) Bosket, Ervin (Helena) Bosket, David Bosket, Clyde Bosket, Jr. and John (Minnie) Lott; daughters Carolyn Bosket and Jennifer Davis; stepsister Roxie Hooks; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her mother and father, Bessie & Tyrie Abney; brothers Tyrie, Jr. (Carybell) Abney, Andrew (Annabell) Abney; and sisters Elnora (James) Padgett and Amelia (Grady) Harp; daughter Shirleen Pearson; stepmother, Elizabeth (Newkirk) Abney and stepsister Beatrice Cole.
