On Tuesday, February 27th 2018 at 88 years of age Mrs. Evelyn Francis Jackson made her journey home to glory holding the hand of her loving granddaughter Shaunika. Evelyn was born on October 18th 1929 to LC and Ernestine Smith in Canton, Mississippi. She was the eldest of nine children; namely LC, Angie Bell, Ruby, Willie, Bernice, Gloria, Charlie, and Velma. Evelyn received her education from the Madison County Public Schools. Evelyn married Clyde Robinson and had her first son Melvin Robinson in Jackson, Mississippi. She later remarried Robert E. Jackson Sr. and moved north to Pennsylvania, making Allentown her home thereafter where she had four children and an adopted son, namely Robert E. Jackson Jr., Evelyn Jackson, Raymond Jackson Sr., Geraldine Smith and Rafee Smith. Evelyn was a pillar of the church and of her community, serving as a foster parent and mentor to children and families in the Lehigh Valley for 28 years. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving on the Usher Broad, Pastor Aid Committee and Choir. She also was part of the Community Gospel Choir and a board member of the Allentown Branch of the NAACP. Evelyn was the Matriarch of a family five generations deep including 7 children, 19 grandchildren, 37 greatgrandchildren, and 5 great great -grandchildren. Evelyn was a child of God, an honorable woman who spread love and encouraged everyone around her to do the same. She was a friend to many, whenever they needed her, she was there.. She was the head of her family and was always there for them no matter the circumstances. Through thick and thin, through trials and tribulations she was always working and praying to keep them strong and family ties tight. Evelyn will always be remembered, loved and cherished by her family and all that had the pleasure of meeting her.
