Wilson Gregory Maxwell

August 22, 1943 ~ December 23, 2016 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Wilson Gregory Maxwell age 73 was called home to glory on Friday, December 23, 2016

Wilson was born August 22, 1943 in Quitman, Georgia to the late Samuel and Myra (Brown) Maxwell; he was their 11th child.  Educated in the Quitman public school system he graduated in 1962.  He migrated to the North for a better life and lived with his sister Pearlie and brother-in-law Charles Davis.  He was employed at Just Born Candy Factory as the head cook in the Marshmallow Department for 43 years until his retirement.

Wilson was married to Joydice Maxwell for 42 years and was a devoted and caring husband and loving father to their daughter Sonya.  After the loss of their only child Wilson and Joydice devoted their lives to caring for their grandchildren Shaunna and Gregory.

He joined Saint Paul Baptist Church upon moving to Bethlehem and was a steadfast member.  His gift for singing led him to become a life-long Senior Choir member.  He was a founding member of the Male Chorus and the Central Pennsylvania Male Singing Association, which he cherished and fully committed his time and talent.  His commitment to serving Lord led him to become a Trustee and he was later ordained as a Deacon under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Marshall E. Griffin, Sr.

Wilson's kind heart and southern hospitality was shown in countless ways.  He and his wife opened their home to many family members throughout their marriage.  When Deacon Maxwell prayed you knew that God was listening.  When he sang "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and "There's A Bright Side Somewhere" you knew the Angels were singing along. He will be remembered for always making sure you were fed spiritually and physically.  He was an excellent cook, and had a beautiful love for conversation.  His life was a reflection of the morals he abided by.

Wilson is survived by his granddaughter Shaunna Maxwell and grandson Gregory Golden, two sisters Myra Dunlap of Quitman, GA and Rose McMillan of Douglasville, PA, two brothers Manny Maxwell and his wife Bessie of Kingston, NC, Billy J. Maxwell of Lake City, FL; one brother-in-law Robert Eggleston and his wife Pauletta, two sisters-in-law Roberta Young, Cleo Currie and May Eggleston.  He was preceded in death by his wife Joydice (Eggleston) Maxwell, daughter Sonya Maxwell, and bothers Sam Maxwell, Frank Maxwell, Sisters Mary Denson, Emma Joe Hollis, Sarah Holden, Annie Bell Thomas, and Pearlie Queen Davis.  He will be lovingly remembered by a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
