George W. Adams, Sr.

May 11, 1928 ~ September 29, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old

George William “Dub” Adams, Sr, affectionately known as  “Pop” to family and friends; and “Pop Pop” to his grand children & great grandchildren left this Earth, peacefully, on September 29, 2016 at St Luke’s Hospital in Easton, PA. He was 88 years YOUNG. Pop was the 2nd child, out of 12  siblings, born to the late Will & Lucile Wilson Adams in Clover, South Carolina on May 11, 1928. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers William Adams, Lawrence Adams, twins Ray & Roy Adams, Charles Adams, sisters, Dorothy Adams, and Helen Neely and Hazel Camp.

Pop grew up and lived with his family in  Gastonia, North Carolina. He started his adult life there working as a truck driver. He married Hazel Dunham in 1947 and from that union, his son, George W. Adams, Jr, was born. Pop left North Carolina in1960 and migrated up North settling in Franklin Township, New Jersey. He found employment as a brick mason and worked for another 33 yrs before retiring in 1993. Organizations he was an active member of included the Masonic Fraternal Lodge 53 and Union County Laborers Union #156. He joined the Somerset Baptist Church, in Franklin Township, NJ. soon after moving to Franklin Township. And in 1965 he met and married his second wife,  Anne Sanders, and together raised a stepson, Wayne “Chubby” McClinton. After the untimely death of his wife, Anne in 1978, Pop continued to work and live in Franklin Township. It was home for him for over 50 years. In 2013, he moved to  Easton, PA to be near his son, George  & daughter-in law, Jerri Adams.

Although a man of few words, this “gentle” man with his “laid back” personality, had a strong penchant for life and a very giving heart. To know him was to love him. Pop’s favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. The latter he continued to do with his long time fishing buddies up until his death. As a matter of fact, he died within two days of a planned fishing excursion with his caregiver. He will always be remembered, for his culinary skills and passion for turning his captured wild game and fish into delectable dishes. Notwithstanding, his fondness for baking biscuits from scratch; always having some on hand when family or friends came to visit. It can truly be said Pop lived a full, complete life and did it “HIS WAY”!

Pop leaves to cherish his memory; his son, George W. Adams, Jr., his daughter-in law, Jerri Adams , stepson, Wayne “Chubby” McClinton, sisters,Willie Jean “Dollbaby” Mitchell, Mary Elizabeth “Sis” Monroe, May Frances “Cooter” Wallace, granddaughter, Shaunice Adams, grandson, Jared Adams, three great grandchildren Dejia Adams, Emani Rowlette, Nahjee Adams, great, great grandchild, Tamir Ennis, Jr, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
